Nano rod is a technical term to name the nano objects in nanotechnology. These nano objects range from 1 to 100 mm in dimension. These nano objects might be synthesized from any metal or conductor.
These rods are synthesized directly by the process of chemical synthesis. Nano rods are provided appropriate shape according to the controlling agents called ligands. These ligands help in providing the elongated structure of the rods.

Types of nano rods
The rods are primarily of two types namely the ZnO nano rods and gold nano rods. Zinc Oxide rods are also known as nano wires and are widely used in fabricating electronic devices which are of nano scale. These devices might include photo detector and field effect transistor.
The gold rods are much more popular than the Zinc Oxide nano rods and are produced by the process of seed mediated growth. The resultants of this seed mediated growth method are high quality nano rods.
However, this method can be improved further to produce longer rods. The addition of silver in this methodology of extracting nano scale rods ensures production of such rods with aspect ratio of as much as 25.
